If not, please proceed to the next fix. The wrong settings, such as the microphone being muted or not set as the default device or the too low volume, will prevent your microphone from working normally on Zoom. So you should configure everything in the settings correctly. Then, type control and click OK. Then, click Sound. Then, right-click on any empty area and tick Show Disabled Devices. If not, right-click it and click Enable. If not, click it and click Set Default. If your microphone is muted, click the speaker icon to unmute it.

Then, drag the slider to set the microphone volume to the max. After settings are applied as above, your microphone should be working fine. You can simply take a mic test on Zoom to check. If the issue persists, please move on to the next fix. One of the most common causes of Zoom microphone not working is an outdated or a faulty audio driver. To keep your audio devices work in the tip-top condition, you should install the latest audio driver.

Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for your exact audio device, and your Windows version, and it will download and install them correctly:. If using an external mic, examine the connecting cable, or check your Bluetooth settings using a wireless mic. For wired mics, try plugging it into a different USB port.

For Bluetooth devices, make sure you have a fully charged battery. Zoom usually requests access to your mic before you join a meeting, but in case you missed it, you can select Join Audio at the bottom of the Zoom window. If the microphone icon has a line through it in your Zoom window, select the Sound icon to unmute yourself. During a meeting, select the up arrow next to the Microphone icon and make sure the desired mic is active.

If you think the meeting host has inadvertently muted you, send them a message in chat and ask to be unmuted. Ensure you correctly set up your mic in Windows and select the audio input you prefer on Mac.

The reason why rebooting resolves computer problems is that it closes any processes that might be interfering with hardware or software. If you hear an echo, your microphone may be picking up the audio from another source, such as a TV or an external speaker. To avoid hearing an echo in Zoom, everyone should mute their mic when not speaking. Meeting organizers can mute everyone else in the meeting. Zoom offers advanced tools intended to improve audio playback, but they can sometimes have the opposite effect.

I recently downloaded Zoom for my laptop and can’t get myself ready for meetings. More specifically, I’m unable to get my camera and USB mic to work, even though I’ve been using these without incident on Teams and other conferencing platforms.

For instance, if I go to video settings, my camera’s light is turned on, but the preview is just a black screen. Accessing these settings causes the Zoom client to hang – forcing me to choose to end task – yet my camera’s light stays on, and I have to disable and re-enable the camera app from Windows settings to reset the camera.

On the audio side of things, the speakers’ test works fine, but not the mics’. Testing both the built-in and USB mic yields nothing. I tried the solutions found in Zoom’s knowledge base. I uninstalled and reinstalled the client, updated Windows, drivers, restarted my laptop, and checked the relevant permissions, to no avail. I’m running Windows 10 on an HP Probook.

Looking forward to your suggestions! Go to Solution. I managed to solve the problem by upgrading to Windows Just wanted to leave this here in case someone comes across this thread.
